mimiZ was formed in 2002. The member consists of three people (Yoshihisa Suzuki, Kensuke Tobitani, and Satoshi Fukushima) in IAMAS. We have performed by the methodology of an original session style with a computer processing. Mimiz performed at various parts of Japan, Germany, Austria and Italy in 2004. Besides a live activity mimiz has offered a lot of musics to the film work. The musical instruments and the recording methods of the musics for the image works are different every time. Thus, we keep groping for an experimental approach.

About mimiZ's session style
mimiZ tries to establish a new model of the session by an original methodology of communications between players only with a computer. In mimiz session, Kensuke Tobitani and Yoshihisa Suzuki input their performed musical instrument sound stream ( ex: feedback noise, percussion, guitar and so on ) to PC taht Satoshi Fukushima operates for cutup, decomposition, and effective sound processing. In this process we do not use any sound files, use only the musical instrument sound. And in response to this processed output sound, we try following musical approach. At this time, Suzuki and Tobitani who play a musical instrument cannot listen to each other playing sounds. In a usual session, each player’s sound is output at the same time, and music is constructed by mixing of the output sounds. It can be said, this session style is “Parallel session”. On the other hand, in our session one player restructures the two players’ performances and outputs sound, and the following performance is decided by this output sound. This “Hierarchical session” improves the absoluteness of the approach to music edited and constructed in real time by not reflecting the player’s performance directly in a final output. In a word, if each player doesn't give the approach that urges a common image to the output and constructed music through the sound processing it cannot have a high quality as the session and as music. Therefore, this session collapses fragilely if the player doesn’t absorbed to this constructed music and doesn’t do an adequate approach.
This methodology “Hierarchical session” can not consist without real-time sound processing of computer and the system that limits the output of the sound. In “Hierarchical session” that mimiZ expresses, the act in the session ties to the process of construction by the conversation through the sound processing.
mimiZ post session (Tokyo version)
The work is the first installation work by Noise free session band mimiZ. The installation, a usual live performance set, is set in a space. The performers are absence. A lap top computer will play "live session" automatically from sound source which are in 3 CDs. The sound in the CDs were recorded by the members of mimiz in three different places where the members live at the night before the previous day separately, thinking to mix in Tokyo next day. They would send it to Tokyo next morning. They continue to record, release and send CDs everyday. The number of the postal packages of the CDs which hung on the wall of the exhibition space will be increased during the exhibition. Recording separately is the style to session for them. Because they live in far places each other. The idea of the work came of their living situation.
